Kanda Midori - Saya Takagi from Highschool of the Dead

Saya Takagi is one of the main group of survivors in High School of the Dead. She is the daughter of an influential politician.
Rescued at the start of the zombie outbreak by Kohta, a teenage boy obsessed with guns, she goes from rejecting him to respecting him.

Her personality in the beginning is stuck-up, due to her high intelligence and important family. She considers herself always right and used to scold Takashi for skipping class.
Despite this she cares deeply for her friends, especially her childhood friend Takashi.

Cosplay by Kanda Midori.
It's is a perfect Saya expression! This cosplay really captures her personality. We recently featured another HOTD cosplay by Kanda Midori, she is definitely one of my favourite cosplayers!

Unknown - The Red Queen Iracebeth from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

fullcosplay:

COSPLAY: the Red Queen / Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

"Off with their heads!"

The Red Queen (portrayed by Helena Bohem Carter) is ruler of Underland, Wonderland's true name. Her real name is Iracebeth. She stole the throne from her sister The White Queen, who she is very jealous of to the point of extreme paranoia.

In the Tim Burton's 2010 film "Alice in Wonderland" Helena Bohem Carter's head was digitally increased to 3 times it's natural size.

Lovely cosplay (cosplayer unknown). It must be difficult to avoid the bold make up looking like a clown's face paint, but this cosplayer manages it.

Cerezos - Kanaria from Rozen Maiden

Kanaria is the second Rozen Maiden. A doll with an artificial spirit like Kirakishou.
She considers herself stealthy, staking out Jun's house with binoculars. Her attempts to attack her sisters fail comedically, despite this she is a good fighter who uses her violin to emit destructive sound waves.
She refers to herself in the third person, and ends her sentences in "Kashira" (I wonder?/Maybe?/Perhaps?) similar to her sister Suiseiseki's habit of ending her sentences with "desu".

Cosplay by Cerezos, it's bright, colourful and cute - just like Kanaria. The violin and parasol complete the costumes.

Kirana - Miku Hatsune from Vocaloid

Miku Hatsune is a Vocaloid - a persona for the voice synthesising software Vocaloid 2. Miku has been a success in her own right, a "virtual diva" she has released her own popular songs with an album reaching No.1 in the Oricon weekly album charts. With the use of holographic projections Miku has performed live concerts.
Her personality is often viewed by fans as being cheerful, she is sometimes depicted and being jealous and spoilt in her videos.

Cosplay by Kirana. This outfit is from "Love is War" a song about heart break.
The photos of the hair blowing in the wig look stunning. The bleak setting compliments the emotions of the song.

Sorano Suzu - Kirakishou from Rozen Maiden

Kirakishou is the seventh Rozen Maiden, a living doll.
Shinku describes her as:

"Her left eye can see everything, but reflects nothing, while her right eye is an empty hole, with a white rose growing out of it."

Initially she lacks a physical body and must absorb another doll to enter the real world.
In the manga her weapon is the ability to control white rose vine to restrain and lash out at her opponents.
She is driven close to insanity by lack of physical existence and is extremely jealous of her sisters.

This cosplay by Sorano Suzu is fantastic! It was so difficult to choose just a few photos since it's such a wonderful set. We highly reccommend you check out the rest of the photos  here

Dismaldreary - Mirana from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Mirana is the White Queen, portrayed by Anne Hathaway, who in Tim Burton's 2010 film - Alice in Wonderland has had her place as ruler of Underland (Wonderland's true name) stolen by her sister the Red Queen, who then banished Mirana from Underland. Having vowed to never harm another living being she is powerless to act and awaits a champion to free Underland from the Red Queen.

It is hinted that despite her kindness she can be as terrifying and cruel as her sister, but fearful that this is her true nature does her best to control it.

A gorgeous cosplay by Dismaldreary that captures Mirana's elegance and grace, plus all the details in her intricate costume.

Koyuki - Moka Akashiya from Rosario + Vampire

Moka Akashiya is a cute and cheerful member of the newspaper club at Yokai Academy, but when the rosary around her neck is removed her true nature is revealed - that of a powerful vampire. While 'outer' Moka has pink hair, 'inner' Moka has silver hair and red eyes. Inner Moka's personality is much colder, although throughout the series she develops a genuine attachment to Outer Moka's friends. Her good lucks make her popular with the male population at school.

Cute cosplay by Koyuki a Japanese cosplayer. The costume is lovely and the photos are perfectly set up to compliment it. You can view her cosplays at:

Michelle Phan's Miku Hatsune Make Up Tutorial

Recently Michelle Phan, a you tube make up guru, did a tutorial on Miku Hatsune. From the responses it seems to be a bit like marmite - love it or hate it.

I like her make up tutorials, they're usually well thought out, interesting looks which she makes simple to understand and follow, and entertaining despite all the silly poses.

But this one just feels too halloweeny. Miku doesn't actually wear much make up, but the turquoise eye shadow remains in the spirit of her character. However that weird white eye make up, designed to make the eyes appear larger and more anime like, is silly and unnecessary. Along with the bottom false lashes it ruins the look.

Those nails are gorgeous - inaccurate though since Miku has her nails painted turquoise - but still gorgeous.

For cosplay purposes these videos will give a better look for your cosplay!

Very light and simple make up:
This tutorial is in Japanese, she speaks very slowly which if you're learning Japanese is useful.

Heavier make up:
This is a more dramatic look

Kanda Midori - Busujima Saeko from High School of the Dead

Busujima Saeko from Highschool of the Dead (a manga and anime about a group of highschool students fight to survive a zombie outbreak) is the kendo club's president and extremely skilled in combat, her skills are frequently made necessary for the group to survive. She is kind and caring, but shows her colder sadistic side when fighting 'them' which initially scares her.

Kanda Midori is a Japanese cosplayer, her cosplays are gorgeous and she's so pretty!

Con Photos - London, Paris and LA!

Summer is the season for conventions, so here are a few sets of photos from some of the most recent:

The 12th Japan Expo was in Paris again from June 30th - July 3rd.

There aren't enough conventions in the UK, but the London MCM Expo starts to make up for it.

ABC7 sent along a reporter to AnimeExpo, which is apparently the 2nd largest convention in L.A. (1st is the car show) although I disagree with  "We don't have social skills".

HRP-4C - Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid

Even robots can cosplay...

The HRP-4C is a Japanese female humanoid robot, using the voice synthesizer Vocaloid she can sing with Miku's voice. The android has since been improved so that it can produce more natural dance movements, demonstrated at the 2010 Digital Content Expo. Maybe in the future Vocaloid concerts will feature this android.
